How Daniel Inspires change through Intention
Hi Daniel, Thanks for taking the time to interview with us. Let’s start with your incredible passion and purpose. You’ve made it clear that your art and platforms are about more than just expression—they’re about awareness and course correction.
What was the moment or experience that lit this fire in you to speak out, particularly as a Black man, on issues like domestic violence and sexual abuse?
There were several tragedies that were happening around me to young women and I felt a mix of emotions of anger, sadness and frustration. It would be silly and naive to think violence against women hasn’t always happened but I think with social media and the accessibility, it has become more highlighted in real time. I know the power of art and how it can impact the world and change the course of societal norms. My hope was to shine a light on a dark subject in a palatable way.
Wow, that’s so powerful. I love how you’ve turned something so personal into a movement that uplifts others. It’s rare to see that level of intentionality and vulnerability, and it really shows how committed you are.
Using your voice in advocacy, especially in spaces where Black men are often expected to stay silent, takes courage. What’s it like stepping into those spaces and challenging the norms? How do you stay grounded while amplifying your message?
It is very dark and often a lonely space, however it pails in comparison to those who are being victimized. Men are victims also and I am aware and sensitive to that reality. I chose to use my platform and voice right now to highlight the most impacted. It is imperative to force course correction and brake vicious cycles with more intentionality.
You’re speaking! It’s refreshing to hear how you stand firm in your truth! That type of confidence and clarity—it’s what our community needs more of.
Your brand, Black Dollar, is all about intentionality and powernomics for Black and Brown communities. Can you share what inspired the vision behind Black Dollar and how your clothing line pushes the conversation about economic empowerment forward?
It started from a study that was conducted in 2021 or 2022 I believe regarding the dollar circulation in different communities. The Black community had the lowest circulation time of 6 hours. This is certainly from systematic and policy driven initiatives but it also from a mindset and teachings from when I was young to go outside to buy. We think that doctor of that race is smarter, that accountant with that last name is more efficient, etc but my clothing is a message statement serves as a reminder.
6 hours? That’s heartbreaking to know but I love that you’ve built more than a brand—you’ve created a blueprint for empowerment.
When you think about the legacy you’re building—through your art, your advocacy, and Black Dollar—what’s the big picture? How do you hope people, especially the next generation, will be impacted by the work you’re doing today?
I just want to inspire. Through my art, words, clothing and anything else I am involved in going forward, it will be intentional and direct.
